Wanted: China WiFi Wireless Internet Access Hot Spots

wifi-china-directory
Hey! We’re building a directory of known, confirmed, and dependable wireless internet access hot spots in major cities throughout China. This, of course, is no small undertaking, but we’re hoping with your help, we can put together a decent list of well-known cafes/coffee houses, restaurants, and other places where people can get online when they need to check e-mail, get some work done, or just surf the internet. We’re not aiming for an exhaustive list. We’re aiming for a solid and simple list that people can use for quick reference.

So far, we only have Shanghai…er, because that’s where little old me lives. As such, I’m hoping some of you awesome people out there, who are also living in China but in other cities, can lend me a hand by sharing some of your favorite places to get online when outside of the home or office. This is for the common good of all WiFi-enabled China residents/visitors, so your contribution to this endeavor will determine if you go up or down after you die.

I am an online university teacher. I am coming to China and I need access to my courses. Do I need to purchase some sort of card to have internet access?

    • Kai Pan says:

      Hi Nancy,

I’m not sure I understand your question. Are you using a laptop or are you referring to something else? Physically, your laptop needs to be able to connect to wifi (wireless) networks. If your laptop can already do that where you are coming from, you’ll be able to get online at any of the various places listed in our directory.
