Expo Numbers Not Getting Smaller: Students Special Price

Just learned yesterday that the Shanghai World Expo Coordination Bureau recently issued a public notice that they are offering special ticket prices to student groups. This is to further encourage students to visit the Expo during the summer months (as if the Expo still needs more people).

So starting today July 5, 2010, the Shanghai Tourist Distribution Centre will be opening up reservations for student groups going to the Expo from July 9 to August 31, 2010.

They are even offering incentives: Buy 15 get 1 free ticket. Grade school, middle school, and high school students can get Expo tickets for RMB 60 each during the weekend and RMB 50 each during the weekdays. Whereas college students can get Expo tickets for RMB 90 each during the weekend and RMB 80 each during the weekdays.

Student groups should buy 5 days in advance, and they have to have a letter or certification introducing their student group. Proper documentation is required. So if you do not have school ID’s with you, you can not avail of the special prices. Even if one has the ticket already, he or she still needs to bring documentation. Even the teachers accompanying the students. So one can not pretend to be a teacher to get a free ticket.

Conspiracy theory

Another thing, I heard this conspiracy theory somewhere but is not yet confirmed–for those hoping that the Expo numbers will get smaller in the coming months–don’t bet on it.

The government sends buses out on a daily basis to nearby towns and villages with lists of individuals who are “invited” to spend the day at the Expo all courtesy of the government. On days when it appears attendance may drop, more buses are dispatched and more citizens are invited to attend.

Interesting. Anyone would like to confirm this?
